This summer was a flurry of activity. We were able to stay put in June, which was good because Trevor worked a lot of weekends and we were going to busy in July and August.
We went to see my family for a week in July. During that time, we drove to the western part of North Dakota to see my mom's family, and we attended the wedding of Jon and Kaydee. Kaydee is the sister of my sister's husband/my sister's sister-in-law/my brother-in-law's sister/whatever is easiest for you. She's basically family now, so we had to get there to see her wedding day!
A little over a week after we returned, we had a busy week with celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary and the Thirty-One Gifts National Conference in Atlanta. The next weekend was Jake and Rachel's wedding in Ann Arbor. School started the following Tuesday, and the next weekend, we flew to Minneapolis for Trevor's brother's second wedding reception. They were married in Connecticut in April, so very few members of Trevor and Tyler's family were able to attend the actual ceremony.
The week following the second reception was crazy busy again, with Trevor working a lot and me getting ready for his birthday (I may have put off birthday shopping until the last minute with all the busy-ness of the summer). Trevor texted me a photo in the middle of the week of Hank Azaria with Trevor and his flight attendant! He is a huge fan of The Simpsons, so this was almost akin to a teen girl meeting Justin Bieber or One Direction!
We celebrated Trevor's birthday by going to Steak n Shake for lunch and then seeing the movie Planes. Trevor has been waiting years for this, so he was very excited to finally see it on the big screen.
My first day of sub work was Monday, August 26. Yes, it's been slow going this school year, so I'm looking for something different, but not having a lot of success with that, either.
Over Labor Day weekend, Dave, Erin, and their 17-month-old daughter Courtney came to stay with us. We spent a lot of time at the pool because Courtney loves water. She also loves fish, so we took her to the Georgia Aquarium - my third trip of the summer! It's so great to be a member of the Aquarium!
The week after Labor Day, we received a message from our friends Alex and Massiel with some photos of cats. These three adult cats were slated to be put to sleep on Tuesday, September 10, if they did not find a home by the end of the day on Monday. I knew an adult cat would be perfect for us - trained, independent, and mellow was exactly what we were looking for. One of the three cats was immediately adopted by our friends Anthony and Jessica, and we decided we wanted one of the others. Well, we found out they were "partners," and that they probably should go together, so we found ourselves adopting both of the remaining cats. We re-named them Crookshanks and Minerva because we pretty much abhored the names they had been given, and we figured they're cats, so they are smart enough to figure out what their new names are, anyway!
