August 2012 Updates

Here's what has been going on with us in August 2012:

  • Trevor and I attended the Super Saturday classes for Thirty-One Gifts' National Convention in Atlanta on August 4. He did a session tailored to husbands, while I attended sessions about growing my business as a consultant. We both attended the day's keynote address, delivered by Darren Hardy, publisher of Success.
  • The local school district opened for the year on August 6, and I went back to work. It's been really infrequent work, but I am glad to be doing something again!
  • I received both a renewal of my North Dakota teaching license AND my Georgia teaching certificate about a week after school started.
  • I attended a free class in downtown Newnan called "Come Bead With Me." Nancy Twomey, a local jewelry maker and teacher, hosts the class once a month. Sometimes there is an actual lesson, but often times, each person simply brings a project. This month, we learned about French knitting. I loved it, and I have since purchased my own spool loom and the items for making beaded bracelets on the loom.
  • Trevor turned 30 on August 19. We celebrated the night before with a Jamaica-themed party for our pilot and flight attendant friends and their spouses. We had about 16 come from as far as Detroit to spend the evening with us.
  • During the last week of August, I had an interview for a teaching job not too far from our home -- about 40 minutes away. This was huge because I hadn't even gotten a call for an interview because I didn't have a Georgia certificate. As of now I haven't heard anything about the job, so I'm assuming I didn't get it, but I am grateful for the opportunity to interview. It gave me a chance to reflect on some things I could do differently, even though I felt I did a great job answering their questions and preparing.

Katie & Luke's Wedding

A big part of what we were up to this summer was attending weddings and bridal showers. The wedding season officially kicked off for us on May 18, with the Gerlachs' wedding. Trevor had known Luke since college, and we've gotten to know them well as couples living in Georgia. Katie is a Georgia native, so their wedding was a local one for us -- we were so excited to be able to drive our own car for once!

Here's a few of our favorite pictures from the big day:
I loved this sweet sign that welcomed us to the Little Gardens.

The flowers in the mason jars were precious. I just want to park some of these chairs with jars in my backyard permanently.

This is Luke, shortly after Katie entered.

Katie, during the vows.

The guys at Table 8 - Trevor, Andy, Michael, Craig & Dan.

Cutting the cake - the lighting was awful so I converted it to black and white!

Josh & Andrea - she's another UND pilot, and he's in the safety department at the same airline as Trevor, Andrea, and pretty much everyone else we know.

Wermes 4th Anniversary Card

{Supplies: Studio Calico April 2011 Kit, DCWV blank card, gem, computer generated journaling, blue decorative tape}

Just popping in quickly to share a super quick and easy card I made for Ryan and Katherine's anniversary. Four years -- what a crazy ride it's been for them and for us! When they got married, most of our friends lived in North Dakota. Now, we're scattered across the country due to various airline and air traffic control jobs.

Happy anniversary, Ryan and Katherine!

Summer Updates

It's been a busy summer! Here's what we were up to in June and July!

  • We flew to New Hampshire to witness the nuptials of my dear high school friend, Samantha, and her partner of nearly eight years, Craig.
  • We attended the Red Bull Soapbox Derby at Piedmont Park in Atlanta.
  • I attended my first Thirty-One Gifts Connect and Celebrate meeting as a consultant.
  • I had a wild adventure flying from Atlanta to Chicago to Fargo over 18 hours due to maintenance and weather delays - and a visit by the Vice President to Chicago!
  • I was the matron of honor in my sister's wedding. Trevor was an usher in the wedding, and we both had a fantastic time celebrating Nicole and Mario.
  • The following day was another crazy travel adventure, beginning with a drive to Grand Forks, and continuing with getting bumped from flights to Minneapolis. When we finally got to MSP, everywhere we wanted to go was oversold, so we spent a night in Detroit with Rachel and Jake, who had arrived there from the wedding just a few hours ahead of us. The next day, we went home via Evansville, Indiana...but my suitcase was in Columbus, Ohio for three more days.
  • I put on my first official Thirty-One party at my friend Amy's office during their lunch break.
  • I put on a Thirty-One party for my friends Barbara and Nancy in an art gallery where they both display and sell their awesome jewelry creations.
  • Our friend Russ and his sister, Sarah, came to visit. Russ loves a sushi place in Peachtree City, so we took Sarah there for lunch before visiting the Georgia Aquarium -- and I signed up for an annual membership that day, since it's my favorite place!
  • My cousin Erin visited us for about 9 days. We took her to Stone Mountain, Lenox Square, World of Coca-Cola, CNN Center, The Georgia Aquarium, Chick-fil-a, Waffle House, a Braves game, and shopping around Newnan and Peachtree City.
  • Our friend Jared also spent a night with us when Erin was here, joining us for World of Coke, CNN, and the Georgia Aquarium.
  • I visited the ear, nose, and throat specialist for the first time and had a comprehensive allergy test sent out for analysis.
  • Trevor and I celebrated our third anniversary with lunch at Jimmy John's, an afternoon showing of The Dark Knight Rises, and Yogli Mogli.
